ECtHR cites the Balkan Homicide Study

In the case of Svrtan v. Croatia (application no. 57507/19) the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) held, unanimously, that there had been a violation of Article 2 (right to life) of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). In doing so the ECtHR, whilst referring to “other relevant materials” in section IV of its judgement, strongly relied on empirical research findings about (attempted) homicides committed using illegally owned firearms. Both the Balkan Homicide Study’s and the CroViMo Violence Lab’s scientific findings are cited in the judgement.
